âCAPTAIN COOKS INDIAâS GOOSEâ
Blares, pithily, a TOI headline on how Ponting and Clarke tore the Indian attack to pieces.
Admittedly I am a constant cric-basher - I donât understand cricket, and I donât want to, either. But I think some general observations would be in order on why cricket, the game, isnât cricket after all.
Cricket, though considered one, isnât exactly team sport coz. at any one point, only the bowling side is present in full strength while the batting side is represented by only two at the crease, so itâs an individual sport, too, like tennis, table tennis or badminton and their individual batting brilliance counts for a lot in the outcome of a match.
India is a country where almost everyone is a cricket enthusiast and considers himself an expert. Will some worthy among these tell me how come ALL the Indian top order batsmen, âthe worldsâ bestâ, have been, without exception, fairing so poorly and consistently over past 10 or 11 innings they have played since their English tour late last year? One can understand when one or two batsmen fail in an innings or even in a test of two innings by each side due to the law of averages or balance of probabilities catching up, but how can all of them?
Cricket is more like our stockmarket that goes up or down for no apparent reason, though the market analysts and assorted experts tell you the next morning why the scrips en bloc behaved the way they did, talking very much from their hindsight.

Punctuality is the virtue of the bored
(Me: Did we ever claim we are overly attentive or active to the goingson?)
Wife to husband: If youâd learn to behave yourself in my dreams, I wouldnât wake up mad at you every morningâ¦

Son to his father: My girlfriend has left me and sent me pictures of herself and her new boyfriend. What should I do?
Father: Send them all to her father!
